Pet Ear Examinations

Dog & Cat Ear Examinations

American Veterinary Hospital offers full ear exams for your dog or cat. Ear conditions can lead to pain and discomfort for your pet. If you see your pet scratching its ears erratically, rubbing their ears against objects (such as floors, walls, or furniture), or similar behavior, your pet could have a serious issue. We help determine these causes and provide a long term solution.

The first step in understanding any pet health issue is to gather data. This is done by a full examination with the use of an otoscope. Here we can see the full length of the ear canal and ear drum, and discover information that is needed for the diagnosis. Often the pain is too great for the pet while we perform this examination. Therefore; anesthesia or sedation may be required. Sometimes additional tests are needed. We check for additional causes, such as bacteria, inflammation, and mites.

In most cases your pet's treatment will be minor, as minor infections and foreign objects are often the culprit. In other circumstances, it could be more serious, such as tumors, or ear mites. Whatever the case, American Veterinary Hospital will provide your pet with the utmost care.
